Indeed, since I made Zeus, I rediscovered the joy of prim building. Well yes, I did make a category “one by one” when I started this blog, but since I am the one and only owner annex writer, I feel I can do what I want and I hereby just ignore the existence of the former mentioned category -though I intend to keep my promise and I will show you (anybody there?) my earlier and sculptie sculptures. When I was asked to sculpt four ancient Greeks, why did I decide to make them out of good old fashioned prims I hear you asking yourselves. The answer is quite simple: they have to look “good” (hmhm) right away and not after a minute or five, they have to look good from far and not far from good and – of course- I must admit I like prim building better (can it be that I am lazy? why don’t I like to make a 3D build first in maya, then try to bake it and then try to reassemble it in second life?) Anyway, these are four ancient Greeks who will be embellishing a sim which will open when I decide to stop spending my time writing things nobody ever reads and finish sculpting two German kings. Ladies and gentlemen, may I present Thukydides, Homer, Aristoteles and Hippokrates, hanging around in the higher spheres of second life’s air.

Soror Nishi, Magic Gardener of Second Life®
March 29, 2008 · 1 Comment
I would like to present to you, dear readers, one of the most talented builders in Second Life and -as far as I know- the best sculptor of trees, mushrooms, plants …. in other words, the very best gardener in this virtual world. I met her a while ago at Orange Island, where I was self-admiring one of my statues. In the meanwhile, she planted -what’s in a word- a beautiful tree construction at Orange, and now she is busy greenifying another sim where I was able to take some snapshots ….

Reflections on Sacred Space – an Exhibition by Morris Vig
March 24, 2008 · Leave a Comment
Morris Vig is back! Although he never really went away, he is now once more showing the virtual world where his heart -in my humble opinion- really belongs: the arts. His exhibition “Reflections on Sacred Space” on the former Oyster Bay grounds shows the kinetic second life sculptures of elros Tuominen, in a modern church or temple like construction. You will just have to go there, because it is sure worth the effort, and as we all know, in second life the high gasoline prices cannot serve as an excuse. Read more about it on http://secondarts.wordpress.com. And in the yard, there is a nice surprice for every art collector …

Take Control by Chance Abattoir for Visions of Global Justice
March 22, 2008 · Leave a Comment
Yesterday I had the chance to admire a masterpiece made by Chance Abattoir. It is a wonderful installation, and a must-see for everyone interested in digital arts. The spectator “takes control” of Lady Justice by clicking on a button and keeps the virtual lady alive by making camera movements.
Since Chance described his work and I do not think I can do better, I hereunder paste his own words, embellished with a few of my snapshots.
- Art for “Visions of Global Justice, ” The Justice Commons, March 19, 2008Title: “take control.”——About the art:Justice is a manufactured human right, and the quality of it is only as good
as the attention we pay to it. “Take control” imagines Lady Justice as a robotic
caretaker of our checks and balances that preserve the little things we take
for granted. However, she still still requires human oversight, and apathy opens
the door to exploits in her system. After taking control, the distance of the user’s camera corresponds to a point in
the short visual narrative. There are twelve points in all. When nobody is taking control,
she is in her final moment of destruction.Exploring the story of Justice is meant to be a communal activity. The person in control
of Justice should never be the one who benefits most. By design, you cannot
clearly see all points of the story yourself while controlling their progression.
You will have to communicate with your peers
while they take control in order to see all angles.
- ——About the artist:Chance Abattoir is the main account of an artist and content creator
working in Second Life (SL) since 2004. He has a lifetime of art
skills, and studied comic book design for a year under the
editor-in-chief of a comic book publisher before moving on to get a
Bachelor of Arts in Cinema/Television from the University of Southern California.
A comprehensive range of related real world experience including fine
art, filmmaking, photography, set construction for theatre, and
classes in game theory and design informs Chance’s ideas about the
virtual world. His primary interest in Second Life is creating
interactive media, and his skills to support this interest include
texturing, building, 3D modeling, and scripting in LSL.

Dressing The Feet
March 20, 2008 · Leave a Comment
Feed the feet sculpt addiction is what I must have been thinking when I decided to make something for my newborns. And to be honest, I adore those straps hiding the places where toes and feet and feet and ankle meet. Goodbye seams, almost not visible on the toe-feet connection -although to me they were- but very much so on an other avatars ankle when he or she does not have the same skin as I do. Of course the colour can be changed, but to find the perfect match, you need a bit of second life building experience and a certain amount of patience. And thus, ladies and gentlemen, I am proud to present you the footwear of the gods (as illustrated below).Sculpted feet with sandals without avatar

Zeus
March 15, 2008 · 2 Comments
A new Greek God in my collection. Because I made the goddesses in the pre-sculptie era, I decided to make their boss like that as well, though I gave in on sculpties for his hands, feet and face.
Merely finished, he was already invited to be a guest at a party at Mount Olympus, where he is keeping an eye on a few of his goddesses. What an advantage it is, to be a god! The more attentive reader will recognize Venus and Minerva amongst them. The two others are Juno Moneta and Tyche, who I did not show here yet (although I remember vaguely to have promised showing my sculptures one by one). As my grandmother always said, the path to hell is paved with good intentions!

Copybot Disgrace
March 14, 2008 · Leave a Comment
Two virtual individuals were caught in the act yesterday morning at Friedman. They were playing around with the 9/11 memorial statue of the New York Firefighter and the golden stock exchange bull, two sculptures I made for Intlibber Brautigan. Copybotted straight out of the WTC tower and the door steps of the ACE building and set up like this ….

… with a sign “NEVAR FORGET” (not visible on the snapshot).Second life?!?

Sculpted Feet and Toes, The Sequel
March 11, 2008 · Leave a Comment
Indeed, nowadays it looks like everything has to have a sequel, so why not sculpted feet and toes? The moment (read earlier posts, you unfaithful readers) I thought I had finished my dear feet was not a long one, it even was merely a wee glance of satisfaction. After having had a good look at them, I decided I could do better so I threw the old ones in the bin …
… and for anyone to see, the dog agreed with my junk choice. So there I went again, tossing and turning my toes and textures. From time to time, and on doctor’s orders, I took my new and unfinished feet for a walk. For a moment I thought those feet would take me nowhere, but they did: they walked me straight up to Tracylynne Carpenter who is exhibiting her pieces of art …
-and now I am allowed to tell- in the yard of the Crescent Moon Museum (http://slurl.com/secondlife/FairChang%20Village/188/143/22
Anyway, in the meanwhile I dream of toes, I think I even look like one and if I knew how toes behave, I would be acting like one too.
Time to stop sculpting feet I should say.
